Dental Education in Basic Sciences

Faculty of the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences have primary responsibility for the design and implementation of five basic science courses of the DDS Program. These include: Anatomy,  Neuroscience, Pain and Nociception, Pharmacology and Physiology. Cell and Molecular Biology and Microbiology and Immunology courses  are administered by basic science faculty in other departments in the Dental School. The Basic Sciences Course Directors meet regularly  to consider dental education issues such as curriculum design, integration and mentoring of new faculty, innovative educational methods, student performance, advancement decisions, student evaluation of courses, etc.

In addition to courses, faculty of the Department of Neural and Pain  Sciences have primary responsibility for the PhD portion of the DDS-PhD combined degree program. In this program, DDS students are offered the opportunity for advanced training in the Graduate Program in Life Sciences . Likewise, combined DDS/Masters Programs in clinical research and public health are also under the direction of faculty in the Department of Neural and Pain Sciences.
